Boy O Boy! Did the Cowboys look good in their pre-season opener or what? The defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts came riding into town and the Cowboys handed them a 23-10 beat down. Granted, this is just the first game of the pre-season, but the starters on both the offense and defense look good. Steven hands RB Marion Barber this week’s game ball for running hard, even though his helmet kept popping off his head.
In the Cowboys News segment, Steven talks about Greg Ellis pondering retirement, as he is worried his achilles’ injury may be career-ending. Steven would hate to see Ellis go, but shares his thoughts on how deep the Cowboys are at that position.
Fourth round draft pick, Isaiah Stanback, finally hits the practice field and we hope his talent and speed are good enough to impress the coaches so that he makes the team. And Steven praises the Cowboys organization for standing by its past players as they honor former Dallas Cowboys players, Ron Springs and Everson Walls as they create the Ron Springs & Everson Walls Gift for Life Foundation, geared toward providing education, early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease. It is always good to see players helping the community and it is great the Cowboys organization is helping its own.
Finally Steven breaks down the pre-season game against the Colts. It appears that this is Tony Romo’s team and that Romo is ready to lead the Dallas Cowboys into the future. His leadership and the relationship he has with the players is starting to show. Enough so, that Terrance Newman was able to joke around and put a big bug on Romo’s shoulders while he was being interviewed by Fox’s Pam Oliver.
Plus Steven takes a look at the Cowboys young wide receivers. With Terry Glenn sidelined for the next 2 weeks, Steven thinks Sam Hurd is the young 2nd year wide out to look for to emerge as a potential big play receiver. And head coach Wade Phillips is preparing for the Denver Broncos and hopes to see a good performance from his defense against what Phillips calls a very good running attack.
